Albania's macroeconomic stability is a valuable achievement on the path to membership in the European Union. These were the words of the Slovenian Ambassador to Albania Jakob Štunf during a meeting with the Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko.

Ambassador Štunf praised the progress made by the Albanian economy. He stated that the Bank of Albania undoubtedly has an important contribution to the sustainable development of the country, by creating a calm and suitable financial environment further translated into the development of the financial market. Ambassador Štunf also stated that Albania has already attracted the attention of many countries with the progress made in the field of tourism, which is now also a promoter of Albania's economic development.

During the meeting, the Center for Excellence in Finance (CEF), the international organization headquartered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which serves as a knowledge hub for our region and where the Bank of Albania has been continuously engaged, contributing as a member for two decades, was also discussed. Governor Sejko expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation, emphasizing that the CEF Center continues to be a partner, which provides a platform to work and transform our societies through knowledge.

Governor Sejko briefed the Ambassador on the current economic and financial situation, as well as the outlook for the Albanian economy. He stated that economic activity in the country has grown at a steady pace, consumer price inflation has stabilized at low levels, while financial markets have appeared calm with accommodative financing conditions.

Sejko also focused on the modernization of payment systems and the development of electronic payments, which bring benefits to citizens and businesses, thanks to the reduction of transaction costs. This process was crowned with Albania's membership in SEPA and the admission of local banks to this European payment space, as an important step towards European integration; starting from October 7, 2025, Albanian citizens and businesses will make faster and cheaper payments with all SEPA member countries.
