Prime Minister: Seized assets are finally being administered sensibly
The Prime Minister today praised the progress made in the administration of seized and confiscated assets, emphasizing that the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK) has entered a functional phase after many years of problems.
"The administration of seized assets has finally started to make sense. The credit goes to the minister who gave due attention to this unit, but also to the director who put the work in order," the Prime Minister said.
He recalled that for years, the asset management unit operated incorrectly: “They took it from criminals with 1001 attempts and then gave it back to them at reasonable prices. The State Police was left without the proper infrastructure, while they repossessed palaces and villas that could very well have been police stations.”
The Prime Minister also brought to attention the situation inherited for decades with entire fields filled with vehicles, motorbikes and carts seized as evidence, describing it as a serious environmental pollution. “After 35 years, Albania is being cleansed of some terrible tumors. The number of slippers collected as evidence is horrifying, enough to outfit the cleaning women of the entire Balkans,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, the recent interventions and restructuring of the AAPSK are bringing concrete results: "It only took attention and structuring of the work, and today the cities are being freed from these carcinogenic sources. Albania is showing that seized assets are not returned, but serve the public interest."
