Foreign trade, exports and imports in August down, 48.8% of exchanges with EU countries

Our country's foreign trade flow during the month of August has had a significant decrease. According to the latest data updated by INSTAT, in August 2025, exports of goods reached a value of 25 billion lek, decreasing by 27.9%, compared to July 2025. The same thing happened on the imports side. INSTAT states that "Imports of goods reached a value of 67 billion lek, decreasing by 2.7%, compared to a year ago and by 19.6%, compared to July 2025". Based on these two indicators, it results that the August trade deficit of 42 billion lek, is decreasing by 10.2%, compared to August 2024 and by 13.5%, compared to July 2025.
According to INSTAT, during August 2025, the following groups increased exports: "Minerals, fuels, electricity. Meanwhile, the largest decline in imports was recorded by the group "Machinery, equipment and spare parts" and the increase in imports was in construction materials and fuels.
But despite the decline in exports, it is worth saying that when viewed separately by partners, there has been a large increase with Kosovo (94.6%), Greece (19.0%) and Spain. According to the data, trade exchanges with EU countries account for 48.8% of all Albanian trade.
