The Americans will build the 600 megawatt wind farm in Tropoja. During a ceremony, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, and Nancy van Horn, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Tirana, were present. Deputy Prime Minister Balluku gave the American company CWP the certificate for the construction of the Tropoja wind farm.

According to the Prime Minister, the wind farm is proof that Albania is moving towards a strong and sustainable energy future.

"Within 12 months, not counting the period when winter is intense, this large wind energy park in Tropoja will enter the network of renewable energy producers in our country. Given the company's experience, the successful journey, it has marched in several countries, before reaching Albania. I am sure that we will gain new knowledge and added value in the culture of work and action in such a strategic sector.

This investment also goes in that strategic direction and on the path to fulfilling that major strategic objective of making Albania a sovereign country in energy production. We have had a dependence on water for a long period.

"When we lacked rain, we had to go to the international market and buy large quantities at exorbitant prices. The time when Albania has to go to the market to buy energy is coming to an end."

In her speech, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku stated that, in recent times alone, over 1.5 billion euros of private investments are in process in the energy sector.

"Over the years, over 2 billion euros have been invested in total. We have a portfolio of projects that will take capacities beyond 1500mgw/h. In wind energy, for the first time, we are entering the phase of implementing concrete projects with an expected capacity of 600 mgw/h. Wind farms have a greater difficulty during their study and construction. All this diversification makes us more resilient to climate change. These private investments have a direct impact on the energy sector, reduce import dependence, are investments that create jobs, increase income and strengthen the local economy."

Currently, Albania is investing in transmission lines, connecting to all our neighbors. Almost the entire line that goes to North Macedonia has been completed and Albania is one of the best connected countries in the transmission system.
