“There are no qualified employees!” - American Chamber Report: Finding staff, the main challenge for businesses
The business climate in Albania was not very favorable in 2024. This is how the American Chamber of Commerce assessed the business environment in Albania during the past year. However, according to its members, the business climate is expected to improve in 2025.
The AmCham publishes the Business Index every year, through questionnaires that identify and measure the problems facing the business community. This enables the AmCham to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to improve the business environment in Albania.
This year, the business climate rating has dropped to 46.47 points out of 100 in total, compared to 47.57 points a year ago, again producing an Index that is below average.
Despite a slight improvement in 2024, the main problem in the business sector remains finding qualified local staff. Meanwhile, monopoly and unfair competition, the informal economy, government bureaucracy and the overall level of taxes are some of the other challenges that businesses face.
On the other hand, energy supply or order and security in the country had the best perception for the companies surveyed during 2024, while the perception of infrastructure had a slight improvement. Also, banking services and policies, the domestic political climate, the provision of financing for business development, and the demand for goods and services in export resulted in improved scores.
For 2025, AmCham members predict a positive trend for the business climate, the performance of the Albanian economy, the demand for goods and services, as well as economic reforms or central government policies.
