Durrës residents, the most savers in 2025 - BoS: Deposits in Tirana and Vlora, with a slight decrease. How is the situation in other regions?
Citizens and businesses are increasingly keeping more savings in banks. The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that total deposits increased by 0.3% in the second quarter of the year.
But which are the counties that save the most?
Since the majority of the population and businesses are concentrated in Tirana, this region leads in terms of the value of money that citizens and businesses keep in banks. Deposits in the capital reach a value of 836 billion lek, followed by Durrës with 124 billion lek and in third place by Vlora with 101 billion lek of bank deposits.
However, from April to June, it was the people of Durrës who chose to spend less and save more. According to official statistics, deposits in the Durrës region experienced the highest growth compared to other areas of the country, by 2.2% specifically. Deposits in Fier also increased by 2% estimated with the first quarter of 2025.
Despite having the largest deposits, it seems that the people of Tirana and Vlora did not have enough income to set aside some savings in the second quarter. According to data from the Bank of Albania, the amount of deposits in the districts of Tirana and Vlora has suffered a slight decrease compared to the first quarter, by 0.5% and 0.1% respectively.
Tirana, Durrës, Vlora and Lezha are the only regions where deposits in foreign currency are preferred over those in lek. In these four regions, savings in euros are significantly higher than those in lek.
