890 million lek for the Agricultural Census - Fines are foreseen for those who do not provide accurate information
After the completion of the Population and Housing Census in 2023, the Institute of Statistics is preparing for the Agricultural Census. The draft law has been issued for public consultation, while the aim is for this census to cover all economic units that use agricultural land or that carry out agricultural and livestock activities within the territory of the Republic of Albania.
These economic units may fully or partially market their products, or use them only for family needs. The aim of the census is to cover 98 percent of the area used for agriculture, excluding horticulture, as well as 98 percent of livestock units throughout the country.
Financially, this process is expected to cost around 891 million lekë. Over half of this amount, or 475 million lekë, will be used to pay human resources, which include surveyors, controllers, IT specialists and support staff in the fields of finance, law and logistics. Expenditures for travel and field monitoring are planned at 17 million lekë.
About 60 million lek has been allocated for equipment and supplies, which mainly include the rental of cars and computer equipment for staff. The budget also includes 29 million lek for rented offices, which will be used for training and operations during the census in the field.
The Institute of Statistics and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are responsible for implementing this process, which will provide specialized personnel and the necessary support for the implementation of the activity.
According to the draft law, refusal to provide the requested information or providing false data will be fined ranging from 30 thousand to 100 thousand lek.
This Agricultural Census is one of the most important statistical processes in the country, which will provide accurate and updated data on the agricultural and livestock sector, helping to design development policies and better manage rural resources in Albania.
