Pope Francis' passing - April 26 declared a national day of mourning
Saturday, April 26, 2025, has been declared a national day of mourning in gratitude and honor for the Holy Father, Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, at the age of 88, in his residence at Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican.
The Council of Ministers, in support of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and the legislation in force and upon the proposal of the Prime Minister, has taken the decision to declare April 26 a day of mourning, during which our national flag will be flown at half-mast in all state institutions.
Also, all radio and television stations, public and private, will broadcast funeral music as a sign of respect.

NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING DECLARED
In accordance with Article 100 of the Constitution and point 4 of Article 4 of Law No. 8926, dated 22.7.2002, “On the shape and dimensions of the national flag, the content of the national anthem, the shape and dimensions of the coat of arms of the Republic of Albania and the manner of their use”, as amended, upon the proposal of the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers
DECIDED:
1. Declaring a national day of mourning on Saturday, April 26, 2025, as a sign of sorrow, respect and gratitude for the Holy Father, Pope Francis, who passed away after an illness.
2. In all state and public institutions, the national flag should be lowered to half-mast.
3. All public and private radio and television stations are invited to broadcast funeral music during the national day of mourning.
4. All state and public institutions are charged with the implementation of this decision.
This decision takes effect immediately.
