Milot-Fier, where has the project reached? - 114 km of highway, segments in

The approval of the implementation project for the Kashar-Lekaj axis and the announcement that works will begin within this year brings back to attention the progress of the entire Milot-Fier highway, one of the main axes of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor.

This segment of the blue corridor extends for about 114 km and is divided into the segments Milot-Thumanë, Thumanë-Kashar, Kashar-Lekaj and Lekaj-Fier.

Currently, the most advanced segment is Thumanë–Kashar, with a length of 21 km, where works have been completed and the axis has been opened to vehicle traffic.

For the other three segments, 35-year concession contracts have been signed. Milot–Thumanë, with a length of 13.5km, will be built by a consortium led by “Gener 2”, the company that also built Thumanë-Kashar. The project foresees intervention in the existing route and its improvement according to category A standards.

For Kashar–Lekaj, the winner is the merger of 7 operators “Gjoka Konstruksion”, “Junik”, “Cobial”, “Pepa Group”, “UDHA”, “Geoportal” and “A&E Engineering”. The estimated investment value is around 474.9 million euros, excluding VAT.

The entire length of this section is about 33.6 km, but only 26.6 km are subject to the concession contract. About 7 km coincide with the Tirana Bypass and will be built with funding from the state budget.

Meanwhile, for the Lekaj-Fier segment, with a length of about 46 km, the concession contract has been signed with the merger of 8 operators: "Fusha", "Agbes Construksion", "Albavia", "Kupa", "Ante-Group", "Klodioda", "ALTEA & Geostudio 2000" and "Sphaera".

In parallel, the Tirana Bypass is also advancing. This project will have a total length of about 21.6 km, but 7 km of it are also part of the Milot–Fier highway route. Works continue on the first two phases of the bypass, which include about 8.2 km and contracts with a total value of about 5.9 billion lek. Meanwhile, the Albanian Road Authority has opened the tender for the third phase, with a fund limit of 1.55 billion lek, which also includes the connecting node with the Tirana–Durrës highway.
