Lek increases weight in banks/ Savings in local currency grew faster. Deposits reach 1.56 trillion lek

Deposits continued to grow during July, reaching 1.563 trillion lek. According to data from the Bank of Albania, the stock of deposits increased by about 20 billion lek in just one month, from 1.543 trillion lek at the end of June.
The growth is even stronger compared to a year ago. In July 2025, deposits were around 1.407 trillion lekë, which means that within a year the stock has expanded by around 156.4 billion lekë, or 11.1%.
The main increase was in deposits in the local currency. At the end of July, deposits in lek reached 781.9 billion lek, up from 765.8 billion lek a month earlier. Compared to July 2025, they increased by about 116.3 billion lek, or 17.5%.
Meanwhile, foreign currency deposits have also increased, but at a significantly slower pace. Their reported value in lek reached 781.2 billion lek, up from 777.3 billion lek in June and 741.1 billion lek in July last year. In annual terms, the increase is around 5.4%.
Thus, at the end of July, deposits in lek and those in foreign currency were almost at the same level. In fact, deposits in local currency were about 686 million lek higher than the value of deposits in foreign currency expressed in lek.
During July alone, the stock of deposits in lek increased by about 16.1 billion lek, while that of foreign currency deposits, expressed in local currency, expanded by about 3.9 billion lek. The difference indicates that the expansion of deposits during the month was mainly supported by local currency.
