Less energy loss in the network - ERE: In January-August the level reached 16.44%
The level of losses in the distribution network for the first 8 months of this year was recorded at 16.44%, or 1.12% less than the same period last year, where losses were estimated at 17.56%. The data was published by the Energy Regulatory Authority, which shows the downward trend reported during previous months.
Energy losses in the network occur for 2 reasons. The first is related to the depreciated network, which is considered a technical loss and constitutes the largest amount of losses, while investments in the electrical network are needed to reduce them. Meanwhile, the second reason includes non-technical losses or in other words theft. To reduce this indicator, checks are being undertaken for abuse of electricity at various entities in the country.
According to the plan revised by the Council of Ministers, the year 2025 should end with a loss level of 18.1%, while in 2026 the losses should be at the level of 17.8%. Meanwhile, according to the government program 2025 -2029, the goal is to reduce energy losses in distribution to less than 12% within 4 years. According to the program, this result will be achieved based on new measurement technologies.
High losses in the electricity network are followed by high bills for public energy companies, so the reduction would lead to a healthier financial balance sheet and consequently increased investments, but also policies to reduce energy prices.
