Morocco and Albania relaunch and deepen cooperation - Procedures for lifting short-term visas coming soon
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, has begun an official visit to Morocco, where he was received by his counterpart, Nasser Bourita. This meeting, which marked the 63rd anniversary of diplomatic relations, confirmed the shared will to further deepen and strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas, including politics, economy and culture.
During the discussions, the two ministers praised the very good relations between Albania and Morocco and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen economic, trade and cultural cooperation. Albania praised the profound reforms that Morocco has undertaken under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, as well as the efforts for political, economic and social development, particularly within the framework of the New Development Model of Morocco.
Minister Bourita acknowledged Albania's contribution to peace and stability in the Western Balkans and appreciated its efforts to promote good neighborly relations. He underlined Albania's advanced progress in the EU accession process and reaffirmed support for Albania's aspiration for membership in the European Union, as well as the comprehensive reforms undertaken by the Albanian Government in this regard.
During the meeting, a Joint Declaration was signed, which reaffirmed Morocco's role as a pole of stability and development in Africa. The declaration also noted the strategic importance of Western Sahara and the Sahel region, emphasizing the need for peace, security and economic development as key factors for regional and global stability.
In this context, Albania recognized the importance of the Western Sahara issue for Morocco and appreciated Morocco's serious and credible efforts within the framework of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable solution. Albania considers the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007 as a serious and credible basis for resolving this regional issue.
The ministers also agreed on concrete steps towards economic and sectoral cooperation, through the promotion of agreements in renewable energy, tourism and food security.
In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the diplomatic academies of the two countries, to strengthen cooperation in the training and capacity development of future diplomats. Another important achievement was the decision to organize a Business Forum by the end of the year in Tirana, creating opportunities for new investments.
In an important step to facilitate mobility, increase trade and tourism, Morocco announced the lifting of visa requirements for Albanian citizens for short-term stays. This decision will facilitate contacts between citizens and improve ties between the two countries.
The Moroccan Foreign Minister also confirmed that he will visit Tirana before the end of the year, reaffirming the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. “This declaration serves as a basis for a roadmap that will guide our future cooperation,” the ministers concluded, expressing confidence that this new dynamic will bring tangible benefits to both countries.
