Malaj: Albania committed to strengthening international cooperation in the fight against terrorist financing

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, participated in the 5th international ministerial conference "No Money for Terror", which was held in Paris, France, under the special patronage of the Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty of France, Mr. Roland Lescure.
The conference was held within the framework of the French Presidency of the G7 for 2026, and was also attended by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
Participation in this conference is a very good opportunity for our country to share experiences and discuss new challenges in ensuring greater global financial security.
During a statement following the conference proceedings, Malaj expressed the Albanian government's commitment to being an active partner in global efforts to combat the financing of terrorism and protect the integrity of financial systems.
Albania, he said, is today an active voice and a reliable partner, while taking a series of measures in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, which are in line with international approaches and standards.
In this regard, the Minister emphasized that the country is investing in increasing institutional capacities, modernizing financial monitoring systems and strengthening financial intelligence analysis, as well as expanding professional expertise in new areas such as crypto-assets and digital finance.
On the other hand, the country is continuing to align its legal and regulatory framework with international and European Union standards.
The Minister emphasized that, faced with the major challenges and transformations brought about by technology, more international cooperation, a stronger partnership, and continued investments in stronger systems are required.
The “No Money for Terror” conference is a high-level forum initiated by the French government since 2018 with the aim of strengthening international cooperation to completely block the financial resources of terrorist groups globally. This year's discussions focused on: preventing the misuse of cryptocurrencies and technological innovations, disrupting the financial links between terrorism and transnational organized crime, and combating financing strategies based on the control of territories.
At the end of the conference, a joint statement was issued, emphasizing the commitment of member countries of the FATF global network and international partners to strengthen the fight against terrorist financing.
It was reaffirmed that terrorism remains a global threat that undermines international security and that the international community must ensure that there are no safe spaces for the financing of terrorist activities, including any form of state support for terrorism.
Participants reiterated the implementation of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and UN resolutions, as well as the continued implementation of the "Paris Agenda" adopted in 2018.
