Access to higher education is facilitated - Agreement for studies in the Western Balkans enters into force
The agreement on access to higher education and admission to study in the Western Balkans, signed in Berlin, has been published in the Official Gazette.
This agreement is a catalyst for deeper regional economic integration and a step towards the EU Single Market, aiming to facilitate access and admission of secondary education graduates and students of the Parties who wish to begin their studies in public higher education institutions.
The Agreement regulates access to higher education and admission to study at accredited public higher education institutions, with the aim of obtaining the right to study in the Western Balkan countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, as well as Serbia. The rights to free education, accommodation and scholarships are regulated in accordance with the legal framework of each Party.
It is also further specified that this agreement will increase the quality of higher education, encourage the establishment of joint study programs, and promote academic and student mobility, as well as the development of exchange programs.
The list of public higher education institutions will be specified by the Joint Commission for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications in the Western Balkans.
On the other hand, candidates will be provided with access and admission to the relevant public institutions of Higher Education with the same or equivalent access and admission criteria as for applicants from the host country.
The Parties provide information on study programs offered by various higher education institutions throughout the Western Balkans region.
Each party involved in this agreement recognizes qualifications issued by other parties that meet the general criteria for access to higher education.
