Businesses, 91 billion lek loans for equipment purchases - BoA: Loans for this purpose account for 18.7% of the total received by enterprises
Although most businesses in Albania take out loans for real estate, there is also a lack of those that take out loans for investments that can be very costly, and therefore unaffordable to be realized with the income that the business provides itself. Such investments are related to improving the business infrastructure, such as for renovation or purchase of various equipment that is necessary for its operational functioning.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, it is estimated that around 91 billion lek were borrowed by businesses for the purchase of equipment at the end of April. Thus, businesses are increasingly seeking financing from banks to cover the expenses arising from the purchase of equipment.
The figures show a 9% increase in loans received for this purpose compared to April 2024, when the total loan amount was only 83 billion lek.
If we make an assessment based on currency, official statistics show that the majority of businesses choose to take out loans in euros to purchase equipment. Thus, the loan in lek for the purchase of equipment results in only 33 billion, the one in euros is 57 billion lek, and the loan taken out in dollars for the purchase of equipment results in only 688 million lek.
In total, loans disbursed to businesses for real estate, overdraft, working capital, equipment purchases, and business start-ups totaled 485 billion lek at the end of April. Loans for equipment purchases account for only 18.7% of total loans granted to enterprises.
