Investments in tourism infrastructure - Needs assessment and model projects, coordination with the Ministry of Tourism
The new Tourism Strategy 2025–2030 considers as a priority the assessment of needs and investment in tourism infrastructure, with the aim of improving the quality of destinations, extending the tourist season and promoting the development of new tourism products throughout the territory.
According to the document, being a developing tourist destination, Albania lacks various types of tourism infrastructure to support the improvement of the value chain of several different tourism products. For this reason, one of the measures proposed in the newly approved document is the assessment of tourism infrastructure investments, with a focus on identifying missing elements and prioritizing investment needs.
According to the strategy, the provision of public tourism infrastructure is a key task of the public sector at local, regional and national levels. Meanwhile, in order for this program to generate and sectoral linkage of investments to succeed, significant financial resources, support and coordinated efforts between various interest groups are needed, including the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, as well as the Albanian Development Fund.
The Tourism Development Strategy 2025–2030 sets ambitious objectives for transforming the sector into a pillar of sustainable economic development, while predicting that tourism revenues will reach 6.7 billion euros by the end of the decade, up from 4.16 billion euros in 2023.
