Receiving a pension at the bank - ISSH, information campaign: Application via e-albania
The Social Security Institute is inviting beneficiaries to switch their pension collection from traditional post offices to the banking system. Through a statement on social networks, the ISSH emphasizes that this initiative aims to avoid long queues at the post office and offer a faster, safer and more comfortable solution for citizens, especially for the elderly.
To make this transition, citizens must open an account in one of the second-tier banks with which ISSH has a cooperation agreement. The account must be specific for pension payments. Once the account is opened, beneficiaries must complete an online application through the e-Albania portal, selecting the “Request for benefit file transfer” service.
There are a total of 10 banks with which the Social Security Institute has signed agreements for the payment of pensions in Albania.
This process not only modernizes the pension distribution system, but also increases security and makes life easier for citizens in an era when technology is becoming an inseparable part of everyday life. Pension beneficiaries can now receive their payments on time, without queues and without stress, simply through the bank.
The Law on Basic Accounts, which aims to increase the penetration of banking and financial services among the population and provides benefits for categories in need, began implementation in April 2024.
The new law on basic accounts, which defines the categories that benefit from services with reduced or zero fees, also defines the option of transferring the account from a normal to a basic banking account.
Meanwhile, services such as opening and closing bank accounts, ATM withdrawals, direct debits; payment transactions via a card, including online payments; credit transfers, including periodic payments, where applicable, at terminals and bank counters and through online platforms, are also zero-fee.
Referring to last year's data, there were about 74 thousand pensioners who received their pension through banks and about 666 thousand others at the post office.
