Investments at the entrance to Shkodra - Rama: The Navigation Museum, a unique

Following the signing of the contract, work has begun on the construction of the Navigation Museum at the entrance to Shkodra. In a post on social media, Prime Minister Edi Rama considered the museum “an investment that will give the city a unique space dedicated to its heritage and history, closely linked to navigation on the lake and the rivers that surround it”. Its construction is part of the project to improve the landscape and connecting infrastructure for the Wetland Park at the entrance to Lake Shkodra, with the aim of increasing the tourist offer of natural areas in the northern region.

The signing of the contract worth 731 thousand euros was announced by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in March this year. The works are being carried out by the company SMO UNION, while the tender was opened in June last year and the contracting authority is the Albanian Development Fund.

According to the EBRD, the area where the project will be located is very sparsely populated, while the natural part occupies the largest percentage. The Wetland Park will offer recreational functions for citizens as a walking and resting area with views of the wetlands and sports facilities. Also, according to the bank, this park has great strategic importance for Shkodra because it is a pioneering project adapted from a climate point of view, which will regulate flooding in that area.

The interventions to be carried out are part of the Infrastructure and Tourism Project in Albania, which is financed by the European Union in a total amount of 40 million euros, as well as by the complementary sovereign loan provided by the EBRD to the government of Albania.
