Housing in numbers, less funding in 2024 - How many families in need were

At a time when housing remains one of the biggest social challenges, the national program "Housing" has managed to support over 22 thousand families in need, despite budgetary constraints. But during 2024, funds for this program were reduced from 1.39 billion lek to 1.19 billion lek.

The program's objective is to provide adequate and affordable housing for 35,000 families who cannot afford market prices by 2023. So far, 22,906 families have been assisted, representing 65.4 percent of the national target.

But what are the 2024 results from the housing program?

Referring to the balance, the results of 2024 are that 5,644 families benefited from interest subsidies for existing loans, with a financing of 207.3 million lek.

Among others, 279 other families were supported with new loans, worth 89.3 million lek. 1,945 families received assistance with paying rent on the free market, while 294 families affected by the construction of the Grand Ring Road were supported with rent, with a fund of over 50 million lek. Meanwhile, 36 families benefited from immediate grants for low-cost housing.

Public investments within the program have also continued, albeit with reduced budgets. About 2 billion lek of projects have been implemented with domestic financing, and nearly 500 million lek with foreign financing. In total, housing projects amounted to 537.6 million lek.

But what do the three main interventions include ?

Initially, the focus will be on improving infrastructure in informal areas, with a completion rate of 99 percent, the reconstruction of buildings owned by local units for social housing, fully completed, and the rehabilitation of housing for the poorest communities, with a completion rate of 93 percent.
