"EU Integration, we will soon open Chapter 27" - Environment, Jaupaj: The most difficult because of the financial value that must be invested
After opening several chapters with the European Union, the next one is expected to be Chapter 27 - Environment and Climate Change.
Everything was announced by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Sofjan Jaupaj, during the conference on the topic "Integrated water management for sustainable tourism development", held by the Academy of Sciences.
According to Jaupaj, this chapter is considered the most difficult due to the financial value that must be invested to achieve the standards.
"It is the most difficult chapter that the Republic of Albania negotiates with the European Union due to the financial cost of achieving the European Union's environmental standards. The water chapter alone will cost Albania about 7 billion euros over the next 10 years ," said Jaupaj.
Also present at the conference was the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anila Denaj, who focused on the importance of water management for the agricultural economy, while sharing data from a study on the need for investments in agricultural infrastructure.
"From our study, conducted at the ministry a year ago, it is estimated that to manage the entire infrastructure, which is inherited, but most of this infrastructure was built in the '60s-70s, it will require a financial resource of at least 600-700 million euros. So, we are talking about substantial budgets," said Denaj.
In his speech, the Vice President of the Academy of Sciences Vasil Tole emphasized sustainable water management, due to its importance in many sectors. He also emphasized the need for an in-depth analysis, which will also help in building policies that are oriented towards the public interest.
