Rrogozhinë-Vlora-Airport Railway, electric - Austrian company announced as winner for the design, bid 78.81 million lekë
With a bid of 78.81 million lek, the Albanian Railways has announced the winning company that will conduct the study and draft the project idea for the rehabilitation of the Rrogozhina - Vlora railway line, as well as the design of the new railway line that will connect Vlora airport with the city of Vlora.
The tender with a fund limit of 95 million lek was opened in December last year, with the Austrian company ILF Consulting Engineers Austria being declared the winner.
According to the documents accompanying the tender procedure, the existing Rrogozhina - Vlora line, with a length of 84.27 km, operates below optimal capacity due to outdated infrastructure and the need for deep improvements.
The same documents stated that it is necessary to build a new train line to connect the city of Vlora with the Vlora airport, given that this airport creates opportunities for the economic and tourist development of the region.
Meanwhile, the company that won the tender will have to draft an implementation project for an electric railway line with speeds up to 120 km/h.
According to the Albanian Railways, the implementation of this project aims to provide a combined rail and air transport service, facilitating passenger access to the airport in a faster, safer and more sustainable manner.
Also, one of the main objectives is to increase traffic safety for passengers, reducing the risk of accidents.
