The largest contemporary art gallery in Tirana, “GOCAT”, created by the Mane Foundation, has opened its doors to the newest exhibition, “Life and Death”, by Faton Kryeziu. A first solo exhibition of the artist from Kosovo in Albania, which will remain open until May 25.

The title itself speaks volumes about this exhibition; it addresses the duality of life and death, the weight that these two notions have on man himself, but above all the irrefutable truth that the beginning and end of his journey stand above every other mystery.

Fatoni dwells on life and death, bringing his personal experiences during and after the Kosovo War – as an individual and artist who has seen “fields, houses burning, and plants sprouting right on top of the scorched earth.” For him, the Kosovo War is inextricably linked to death, just as Kosovo’s independence on February 17, 2008, is linked to life.

At the opening ceremony, artist Faton Kryeziu shared his entire creative process, describing it as a process spanning time, with the curious observation of man and artist.

"I am truly a good observer and I say that I have had a lot to see in my country, in Kosovo. Everything I have observed, since I was a child and until the moment when Kosovo was declared independent, has been put on the canvas with objectivity and sincerity," said Fatoni.

Suzana Varvarica Kuka, the curator of the "Life and Death" exhibition, described the "GOCAT" Gallery as the most ideal space for promoting Kryeziu's exhibition and beyond.

""GOCAT" is one of the most beautiful galleries in Tirana, and not in its initial concept... It is one of the galleries that conveys emotional feelings not only to the artist, but also to the curator, not only to the critic, but also to the public," said Suzana Varvarica, while not hesitating to compare the gallery with galleries around the world.

All the paintings exhibited in the gallery's premises, which are 25 in total, come as a result of the harmony achieved between deep thought, color, and figurative content.

While together they issue an invitation to experience expressive doses of art, among them stand out the self-portrait of Kryeziu and the portrait of the prominent Albanian writer Ismail Kadare.

These works intentionally constitute the final diptych of the exhibition “Life and Death.” While best conveying the character of the selected personalities, the artist's conviction is communicated, that the work and the work left behind never know death.

"GOCAT" comes as a space where art lovers do not have to pay a ticket and where artists are only required to bring their passion and creative originality.

Faton Kryeziu's exhibition at the "GOCAT" Gallery follows 20 previous solo exhibitions by the artist, opened in places such as Prizren, at the National Gallery of Arts, Prishtina, at the "Brucke" Gallery, Germany, and the "Dalek" Gallery, Belgium.

Over 400 of his works are part of private collections in various countries around the world, including the United States, Bahrain, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland, and North Macedonia.
