Tropical fruits came in more and cheaper! - The average price for the first 3 months of 2025 was 81.4 lek/kg
During the first three months of 2025, around 8,100 tons of tropical fruits were imported into Albania. The majority of these products came from Latin American countries, while a smaller amount was also imported from several African countries, which are also important suppliers of exotic fruits to Albania.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, tropical fruit imports have increased by 8% compared to the same period last year. The total value of these imports has reached 660 million lek. Compared to last year, where importers paid an average of 81.4 lek per kilogram of tropical fruit, the costs are lower, although the quantity of imports has increased.
This trend of increasing imports of exotic fruits from Latin America and Africa was also observed last year. According to INSTAT, Albania imported around 32,400 tons of tropical fruits in 2024, an increase of 10% compared to 2023.
Ecuador is the main country from which Albania imports tropical fruits, or about 75% of the total. After Ecuador, other countries include Costa Rica, Brazil, Argentina and Tunisia.
The total value of imports of these products last year reached 2.5 billion lek, while in 2023, when imports were lower in quantity, the value of imports was higher, reaching 2.76 billion lek.
