Excellent students "dream" of medicine - Applications for higher education. The rest choose economics
At a time when technology and healthcare are setting the pace of the modern world, the dreams of young Albanians seem to be moving in the same direction.
According to data published by the Student Portal, in the first phase of applications for public higher education in Albania, General Medicine is the main preference of high school graduates with high average grades.
More specifically, 26.42% of high school graduates with an average above 8.5 have listed Medicine as their first choice from a list of 10 branches.
But not everyone can get into a field with such high demands. Those who fail to get into Medicine are immediately oriented towards another field that is experiencing significant growth in interest, economic informatics. According to official data, 11.81% of applicants have expressed interest in this field.
After it come the classical branches of Finance, Business Administration and Economics, at the University of Tirana.
Meanwhile, Law, as a branch, continues to maintain its stable positions in the list of preferences. This year, it is presented with high interest due to the more favorable admission criteria, where the average for entry is lower than in the elite branches of medicine and informatics. For many high school graduates, it represents a safe alternative, while maintaining its classic and respected profile in society.
When it comes to admission quotas, contrary to what one might expect, the numbers have not changed much from a year ago. Law is among the branches offering the largest number of quotas with 670 places, followed by Finance, Medicine, Business Administration, and then other branches within the fields of economics and health.
