Statement, American Chamber raises concerns about tourism - Challenges that need to be addressed: From summer construction to labor shortages
The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania has reacted through a press statement, highlighting the positive developments in the tourism sector in recent years, but also the challenges that threaten the progress of the ongoing tourist season.
The statement notes the significant increase in investments in accommodation structures and the increase in the flow of foreign tourists, which according to the Chamber are bringing a positive impact on the country's economy. However, the organization representing American business interests in Albania emphasizes that some structural problems still remain unresolved.
According to information gathered from its members in the tourism sector, some of the main concerns include the lack of drinking water in coastal areas, poor wastewater management, waste burning in landfills, and construction activities that continue even during the summer months. These issues not only affect the normal functioning of hospitality structures, but also directly affect the visitor experience and the quality of life in the respective communities.
Another issue highlighted by the AmCham is the lack of a skilled workforce. “The lack of trained staff has put many tourism businesses in difficulty, while also jeopardizing Albania’s competitiveness as a tourist destination compared to other countries in the region,” the statement said.
The Chamber calls on central and local authorities to take concrete measures to address these challenges, and expresses its willingness to cooperate with other institutions and stakeholders to assist in the further development of the sector.
