Call Center Dilemma, or Career? - Malaj: Young people are attracted by fast money. Muça: It's a trap
Earning 1,500 to 3,000 euros per month just by mastering a foreign language, without having a high level of education, or pursuing a professional path while building a career with 40-50% less income at the beginning? This is the dilemma that many young Albanians face today.
"At a young age, people or young people want to have money in their hands and seek to get rich as quickly as possible. Getting rich quickly does not give you standard and quality work. It may be good in a certain life cycle, but later the labor market and the knowledge market must move in the same direction," says Nora Malaj, a political science teacher.
According to data from the General Directorate of Taxes, the number of businesses operating as Call Centers has been declining. However, a significant number of them continue to operate illegally, employing a significant number of young people.
"Call-Center has been and remains a trap for young people because it prevents them from doing real work based on the studies they have done. A job in a call-center only develops personal skills, but it prevents them from developing a personal identity ," says employment expert Erjon Muça.
If a young person decides to work in their profession, for example as a financier, they have to start with a low salary due to lack of experience. It usually takes about five years to reach a satisfactory and stable salary.
