What are the most flagrant violations committed at the border? - From smuggling to forgery of documents. Controls are increasing
Violations by businesses and individuals at border crossings are of the most diverse. During 2024, the Monitoring Specialists of the Customs Administration have monitored and verified a total of 1361 customs declarations initiated by the online monitoring of the electronic customs declaration processing system. All cases have been monitored, coordinated and reported in real time.
This verification resulted in an increase in cases where misclassification, smuggling, undeclared goods, and irregularities were found.
Of these violations, the first place is occupied by attempts to introduce contraband goods into the Republic of Albania with 60 such violations, followed by violations related to irregularities in completing declarations, and the third place is occupied by the falsification of various documents, followed by attempts to smuggle prohibited goods.
In the analysis of data compared to a year ago, an increase is noted in both the number of controls and the total penalties and missed obligations.
Specifically, the total number of violations found in 2024 has reached 127 from 80 in 2023, the avoided obligation is recorded at 4.8 million lek, the penalty imposed at 9.2 million lek, and the total amount missing from the budget is estimated at 14 million lek.
Compared to a year ago, the number of controls carried out by this institution at the border has increased by 61%, which indicates increased attention to various illegal and profitable attempts by businesses, but also citizens.
