The 2026 budget sets a cornerstone in terms of increasing pensions, to ensure a dignified payment for this category.” Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj, during the presentation of the draft at the Conference of Mayors, explained how the monthly increase scheme will function.

Malaj also spoke about increasing the minimum wage to 50 thousand lek from January 1, 2026, with the plan to reach 70 thousand lek by the end of the mandate. Meanwhile, regarding salaries in the administration, he said that there will be indexation every 2 years.

The meeting of the Conference of Speakers began with debates, after opposition MPs brought to attention the regulation for presenting the budget proposal, along with the fiscal package, which has not yet been deposited in the Assembly.

Malaj said that she is still in consultation with interest groups and the international factor because tax and customs legislation is being aligned with EU directives.

Meanwhile, for businesses, he promised fiscal stability and legal certainty of contracts, while adding that every fiscal policy is undertaken to fulfill commitments for EU membership.
