Albanian watermelon, the most sought-after product in the world! - In just 8 months, 54.6 thousand tons were exported to foreign markets
The amount of products produced on Albanian soil that have gone to world markets has reached 361,994 tons by August 2025.
Compared to the January-August period last year, the volume of exports increased by 9.1%.
But what are the most sought-after products by foreign consumers?
Official data from the General Directorate of Customs, provided by SCAN TV, show that among the most exported products this year are melons and watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers and mushrooms.
In first place are melon and watermelon products with 54.6 thousand tons exported in just 8 months, registering an increase of 12.4 tons. The value of exported melons reached 12.9 million euros from 10 million euros in 2024.
These products seem to have overshadowed the Albanian tomato, which has a significantly lower amount in exports, while it has suffered a decline compared to 2024. In 8 months, only 18 thousand tons of tomatoes were exported, worth 11.3 million euros, out of 25.3 thousand tons exported in the same period of 2024, worth 18 million euros. Meanwhile, during this year, 5.6 thousand tons of cucumbers and 6.4 thousand tons of mushrooms were also exported.
The increasing trend in exports is an indication that support policies for farmers and increased production standards are yielding the expected results.
The government's ambitious objective is that through support instruments, such as the National Scheme, the Investment Scheme, the Sovereign Guarantee or the soft credit line, the value of agricultural product exports will reach 1 billion euros by 2030.
