Businesses prefer to save in euros - BoA: They grew by 3.7% in July.

Euro deposits have also increased significantly for businesses. According to data from the Bank of Albania, around 283 billion lek were business deposits in banks during July, a figure around 3.5% higher than in the previous month.

All money that citizens and businesses hold in banks, i.e. money in bank accounts, savings accounts, short-term or long-term deposits, and others, are counted as deposits included in broad money.

Business deposits in lek reached a value of 116 billion lek, while those in foreign currency reached 166 billion lek in July. If we make a comparison with June, we understand that deposits in lek have increased by almost 3.3%, while those in foreign currency have increased by 3.7%.

Meanwhile, according to Bank of Albania statistics, transferable deposits, which refer to the money we keep in our bank accounts, are the ones with the highest amount, followed by other deposits and highly liquid deposits, i.e. those without a term.

The majority of deposits are in Tirana, as the majority of the population and businesses are concentrated in this region.

As for the interest rates on deposits in lek, they have been continuously decreasing in 2025. Despite the fact that interest rates have not been very favorable and the profit from deposits is smaller than before, Albanians' savings in banks have been increasing again. Meanwhile, interest rates on deposits in euro remain lower than those in lek.
