29 thousand changes of residence in the first 6 months - 70% increase compared to January-June last year
During the first half of this year, around 29 thousand changes of residence were carried out in the territory of the Republic of Albania. Data from the Ministry of Interior show that, compared to the same period a year ago, the number of changes has increased by around 70%. During January-June last year, only 16 thousand changes of residence were registered.
The months of January and February did not show a significant upward trend, but the change came in March and April, just before the elections, when the number of new settlements doubled compared to the same period a year earlier. The month of June also marked a significant increase and it is expected that the following months will mark even higher increases due to the recent decision adopted by the government "On Civil Status".
According to these changes, every citizen who has a place of residence or residence in the territory of Albania must declare, change or specify his address only electronically. For this purpose, the relevant documentation, such as property deeds, rental contracts, loan contracts or any other legal document proving the declared address, must be uploaded online. This process has allowed many individuals, especially those who have moved from rural to urban areas, to easily change their address using the e-Albania platform.
The decision also includes special provisions for categories of citizens staying in health institutions or in institutions for the execution of criminal decisions. The relevant institutions are obliged to notify the civil registry offices of persons staying for more than three months, within a 48-hour period. Also, notification of the end of the stay must be made within five days.
