Bank of Albania "absorbs" 595 million euros from the market -

During the third quarter of 2025, the Bank of Albania continued to intervene in the domestic foreign exchange market, purchasing euros, with the aim of strengthening the foreign exchange reserve and maintaining financial stability.

According to official data, the Bank of Albania has held seven auctions for the purchase of foreign exchange from second-tier banks. In total, over 108 million euros were purchased during this period, a higher level compared to the previous two quarters of the year.

These purchases are part of the strategy previously announced by the Bank of Albania and aim to increase the country's foreign exchange reserves, but also to manage the effects of high foreign exchange flows in the economy. Purchases in the foreign exchange market have also contributed to reducing the lack of liquidity in the banking system.

Throughout 2025, the Bank of Albania purchased a total of around 595 million euros, making this one of the years with the highest interventions in the foreign exchange market. According to the Bank, these actions were carried out in line with the objectives of monetary policy and financial stability.

In parallel, the Bank of Albania has also carried out several transactions with other institutions. Foreign exchange was sold to the Ministry of Finance to cover its needs, while several smaller purchases were also recorded from international financial institutions.

The Bank of Albania emphasizes that these interventions do not aim to directly affect the exchange rate, but to maintain the normal functioning of the market and strengthen the country's financial position.

According to the data, interventions in the foreign exchange market have played an important role in stabilizing the financial market during the summer months, a period characterized by increased money in circulation and increased foreign exchange flows.

The figure of 595 million euros does not represent routine purchases for the reserve and agreements with other institutions.
