Balluku talks about the underwater transmission line to be built between Albania and Italy
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku has spoken for the first time about the tripartite memorandum signed in Abu Dhabi between Albania, Italy and the United Arab Emirates for the construction of the underwater transmission line.
During a meeting with employees of the Distribution System Operator, in the role of energy meter readers, Balluku focused on the importance of this line in the strategic objective of transforming Albania into a net energy exporting country by 2030.
“In the meantime, I would like to stop for a moment regarding last week’s news of the tripartite agreement between Albania, the United Arab Emirates and Italy, regarding the interconnection line that will connect our country to the Italian coast. Albania is one of the best interconnected countries in terms of interconnection with several lines, the one that connects it with Greece, Kosovo and Montenegro. A line that is being built today to connect it with North Macedonia. The capacities with Greece will be increased, we started work to double it, we will now triple it due to the volumes that are required to be transmitted, but on the other hand, the line that will connect Albania with Italy underwater takes Albania to another level of electricity transmission", said Balluku.
The Deputy Prime Minister further added that "this is a new battle of transmission lines, interconnection, one of the most important processes of the energy sector package where Albania also seeks to have leadership in the region, to become a net exporting force by 2030 while today we continue and import part of the quantity needed to cover the demand of the Albanian market".
The agreement signed a few days ago in Abu Dhabi between the Albanian, Italian and United Arab Emirates governments unites the countries in a strategic alliance with a focus on the energy sector. The signing of such an agreement is a historic moment for our sector, which in recent years has been developing at a rapid pace in terms of increasing production capacities, through the diversification of renewable sources.
