Balkans facing new risks - Regional organizations gather for more security and coordination

The security of organizations in the Western Balkans is facing new challenges, at a time when global geopolitics is changing rapidly and the consequences are increasingly being felt at the local level. In this context, organizations from Albania and the Western Balkan countries held a two-day workshop, focusing on risks, sustainability and the need for more coordination.
The meeting emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, not only at the institutional level, but also at the civil society level, which is directly feeling the impact of global insecurity. According to the organizers, sharing experiences, identifying common needs and building joint projects are key elements for facing new challenges.
Elona Gjebrea Executive Director of ACPD: "Such meetings are very important, at the geopolitical level but also at the level of civil society, which is feeling the consequences. So cooperation, solidarity, ways of cooperation in terms of similar projects and how we can be supported by different donors, are very important, so in this regard, this meeting, this workshop takes on a special value. Such meetings also help a lot to exchange experiences, in this case they help to better understand the peculiarities that each organization has, but on the other hand, to help how we can cooperate and benefit from each other's good experiences."
As the Western Balkan countries aim to integrate into the European Union, strengthening regional solidarity is seen as a necessity for more sustainable and productive development.
Bojan Jovanovski - Architecht of Cooperation Balkan/MA Support and Development: “I am the contact point for the European Union within the National Democratic Federation and I am responsible for the Western Balkans region. My role is, in practice, to help organizations work more together and strengthen solidarity, because this is not a time when isolated and individual work is productive. To assess and identify the different needs of the countries, but also to see what their common needs are, in order to support them in further initiatives for securing resources, raising funds, as well as in advocacy with the European Union. The aim is to ensure that all countries in the region are truly democratic and value the principles of the rule of law, transparency, the fight against corruption and equality in general. This meeting is very valuable in terms of democracy, social inclusion and equality issues, areas in which we as IPPF organizations work. As you can see, geopolitics is changing and we are going through turbulent times, so "We need to be closer to each other and work more together to strengthen our organizations and the connections between us."
According to him, only by cooperating can we better promote issues such as democratic rights, gender equality, and other topics important to all of our countries in this period of great global instability.
