Not only the sea on weekends, but also cultural heritage. Gjirokastra is one of the most favorite destinations for foreign tourists during this season. The "Stone City", for 20 years has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage, becoming one of the main and most special points in Albania, not only because of its architecture, history, tradition, but also for its cuisine and numerous activities.

It is most frequented during the weekends, where in addition to foreign tourists, there are also many local visitors. The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Gjirokastra announced that, during the month of July, only the Gjirokastra Castle registered 34% more visitors, compared to the same period last year. With its potential and the promotion that is being made, Gjirokastra is extremely attractive to tourists from all over the world.

"What struck me as soon as I arrived in this city was this magnificent castle, its influence over the years and its history. The panorama is wonderful and the surrounding mountains are magical," says a tourist.

"I came with pleasure with my family from Portugal. It is a unique destination hidden among the mountains that will surely please us even more when we finish all the visits. Gjirokastra was one of the top 5 destinations to visit in Albania" - says the tourist from Portugal.

"As far as we have seen in these hours of staying in this city, it is quite beautiful. The characteristic streets and stone houses are very special. Now I am visiting the castle" - says Sebastian from Germany.

48,273 visitors were registered during the month of July, while the first week of August has also brought many visitors from different countries, an influx which has brought more income for businesses in the stone city.
