Academy of Sciences towards reform in scientific research/ Gjinushi: Existing

The Academy of Sciences is committed to reforming the scientific research system through strengthening and expanding existing research units and creating new ones. In a statement to the media, the President of the Academy of Sciences, Skender Gjinushi, emphasized that reforming the scientific research system in our country is a necessity due to its backwardness compared to Europe.

"Our EU membership, the Berlin process, the scientific research strategy for 2023-2030, and the law on science itself increase the pressure to have a well-thought-out and coordinated progress in this direction, with the concrete goal that investment and funding for science reach at least over 1% of GDP. Our main task and ambition in science and education is the recognition of diplomas from our schools with those of foreign schools and the implementation of achievements and new technologies in the economy and everywhere in line with the rhythm of the times," said Gjinushi.

According to Gjinushi, currently legal acts are not enough and they must be in accordance with the law to be more effective.

"With these acts, it is possible to provide solutions to some of the main problems related to scientific research in Albania, such as: the status and categorization of research workers, respect for the code of ethics in research and the fight against plagiarism, standardization and ranking of institutes and researchers themselves, financing of scientific research, promotion of cooperation between institutes and higher education institutions in joint projects, and especially in the implementation of doctoral programs, etc. The draft acts, so far, do not meet expectations," he stated.
