NATO certifies Civil Aviation Authority/Quarterly assessment for Albania.

The Civil Aviation Authority has been officially recognized by NATO for its “Airworthiness”, proving compliance with the safety standards required by the Atlantic Alliance. The news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama through a post on social networks, describing this as a positive development for the country.

The recognition is valid for four years and aims to ensure that national aviation authorities can safely cooperate with NATO aircraft.

According to the NATO report, the recognition process began in 2020, when Albania adopted the New Air Code, aligning the legal framework with the regulations of the European Union and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This law served as the basis for the Authority's functioning as a regulatory entity, including air safety oversight, civil-military coordination, and flexible airspace management.

A team of NATO experts conducted a technical assessment, confirming that the Albanian aviation authority meets all standards for air operations, at an equal level with member countries.

The benefits of this recognition are numerous, such as increasing the trust of allies, who see Albania as a reliable partner in air safety, facilitating international cooperation, with opportunities for joint training and operations with NATO, and modernizing the sector, with increased technical and legal capabilities of the Civil Aviation Authority.
