AAPSK participates in the Regional Workshop on Asset Recovery, organized by UNODC in Tirana
The Chief Administrator of the Seized and Confiscated Assets Management Agency (AAPSK), Ms. Risena Xhaja, participated in the two-day workshop organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), held on 22–23 July in Tirana, with a focus on strengthening mechanisms for the recovery and management of assets of criminal origin.
During discussions on post-confiscation asset management and social reuse initiatives, Ms. Xhaja presented the Albanian experience in this regard, sharing concrete examples of confiscated assets that have been put to use in the public interest.
“The social reuse of confiscated assets is not only an effective way to restore justice to the community, but also an opportunity to build citizens' trust in institutions,” said Ms. Xhaja, emphasizing the importance of transparency and inter-institutional cooperation in this process.
Mr. Xhaja expressed the readiness of AAPSK to further strengthen cooperation with international partners, as well as with other local actors, in order to further develop projects and initiatives for the social reuse of confiscated assets.
The Chief Administrator of AAPSK also noted the importance of sharing experiences between countries in the region and beyond, as well as the need to further deepen regional cooperation, with the aim of building technical and institutional capacities in this field.
The workshop brought together representatives from asset recovery offices and from countries in the region, such as Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, international experts and representatives of law enforcement institutions, to share best experiences and promote cross-border cooperation in the fight against organized crime and illicit assets.
