2,962 Albanian citizens, residents in the Middle East - Minister Ferit Hoxha: Their safety, a major priority of the Albanian Government

Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha reported to the Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs on the measures taken by the Albanian authorities for the protection and assistance of Albanian citizens located in the Middle East region.
"Like many other countries, in Europe and beyond, Albania is affected politically and humanitarianally by the recent developments in the Middle East and by the escalation of the security situation in the region. This is also due to the fact that Albanian citizens live and work in the countries affected by the crisis, whose security remains a major priority of the Albanian Government and the Foreign Service in particular," the minister said.
According to him, since the beginning of the crisis, a special headquarters has been established and has been functioning in the Ministry, which, in cooperation with the management team and in close and continuous coordination with our diplomatic missions in the region, has followed and continues to follow, uninterruptedly, 24 hours a day, and with maximum attention, every development, being in direct contact with our citizens and anyone who needs information, advice and assistance, as well as with the authorities in the relevant countries.
The Foreign Minister said that 2,962 Albanian citizens are residents in the region, while 543 citizens are travelers. 2,511 citizens have been contacted individually by embassies, 138 citizens are interested in leaving the conflict zone, 703 citizens have been assisted/guided to leave in various ways, and 24 citizens have left individually.
45 citizens are planned to leave individually by safe means of transportation.
"Prime Minister Rama and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs are in constant contact with our ambassadors in this region, to receive updated information in real time on the security situation in this region, as well as analyze concerns, needs, and propose measures to be taken for Albanian citizens resident or temporarily staying in these countries," said Minister Ferit Hoxha.
According to him, despite the escalation of the situation, despite the deterioration of the security situation, unlike many other countries, Albania has not closed any of its diplomatic missions, prioritizing the need to follow developments and assist our citizens there. Not because there was no respect for diplomatic staff, but because it was necessary to have our people there on the ground, to communicate and assist our citizens there.
