What are the objectives for the Education Strategy? - From curriculum to digitalization, approximation to European standards

The government has approved the launch of the drafting of the National Education Strategy 2027–2032, which will determine the direction of the sector's development in the coming years and its alignment with European Union standards.
The new strategy will be built on two main pillars: pre-university education and higher education together with scientific research. One of the main priorities will be the modernization of the curriculum for pre-university education, which will be gradually extended until 2032. This change comes as a result of the poor results of Albanian students in international tests. At the same time, the digitalization of the education system will continue, through the expansion of the education information management platform.
Regarding higher education, the focus will be on increasing the quality and internationalization of universities, through the revision of the law on higher education and the opening of the Albanian university system to cooperation with international universities.
Education reforms are also directly linked to the European integration process. Education and culture policies are dealt with in Chapter 26 of the negotiations, part of the “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth” group of chapters. This chapter requires candidate countries to improve the quality of education, strengthen scientific research, increase student mobility and harmonise the diploma system with the European Education Area.
Likewise, European objectives aim to reduce school dropout, increase the percentage of young people with higher education, and strengthen the connection between universities and the labor market.
After opening the chapter, at the closing milestones, Albania must demonstrate that it has the institutional framework, policies and financial resources to implement EU standards in education, training, youth, sport and culture, as well as take measures against corruption in these sectors.
It also requires approximation with the objectives of the European Education Area, the creation of a reliable monitoring system, and policies that promote inclusive education and the inclusion of vulnerable groups.
In this context, the new education strategy aims to guarantee the continuity of the initiated reforms, orienting the Albanian education system towards European Union standards and the requirements of the European labor market in the coming years.
