October 13, electric skateboards are banned on the road! The blockade is

From October 13, electric skateboards will no longer be allowed on the streets. The State Police will ban the circulation of these vehicles, which have become a frequent source of accidents recently.

There is currently no regulation that guarantees the safety of citizens from the use of such vehicles. For this reason, circulation will be temporarily suspended, while the necessary time will be taken to establish new rules for movement on electric scooters.

But what could these rules be?

The minimum age to use a scooter, the maximum allowed speed, the installation of protective measures such as helmets, lighting or the definition of spaces and lanes for movement with them, and the avoidance of sidewalks. Another rule may also be related to the number of people holding an electric scooter.

If these rules are not respected, drivers of these vehicles will be penalized with fines or administrative blocking.

This operation is being undertaken after a series of complaints from citizens, who have expressed concern for their safety and that of the electric scooter drivers. Running a red light, walking illegally or between cars, children riding or having several people riding on the scooter, are just some of the violations of road traffic rules that they commit.

In France, for example, regulations set a strict speed limit for electric scooters. These vehicles must not exceed a maximum speed of 25 km/h on public roads. This measure aims to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure harmonious coexistence between different road users.

Electric scooters are prohibited on sidewalks. This ban, aimed at protecting pedestrians, requires users to ride on bike paths or streets where they are allowed.

The new regulations require all electric scooters to be equipped with front and rear lights, reflective devices and a horn. For riders, wearing a helmet is recommended, although not yet mandatory.

French cities have also taken measures to manage the parking of electric scooters. It is now illegal to park an electric scooter that obstructs pedestrian traffic. Some municipalities have designated dedicated parking zones to keep pedestrian spaces free.

During 2024, there were 991 accidents caused by electric skateboards.
