Minister Malaj receives the European Parliament delegation / Progress in public finance management and EU reforms discussed
The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, hosted today a delegation of MEPs from the European Parliament, Budgetary Control Committee, chaired by Mr. Niclas Herbst. The purpose of the visit was to assess the control and audit mechanisms for the Reform and Growth Facility, a new performance-based instrument designed to promote and improve reforms.
During the meeting, Minister Malaj made a brief presentation on the Albanian economy, emphasizing sustainable growth, the maintenance of macroeconomic and fiscal parameters, as well as efforts to reduce public debt through the implementation of planned reforms.
The focus of the talks was also Albania's progress within the Western Balkans Growth Plan and the reinforcement of financial assistance to support reforms. According to the international SIGMA and PEFA assessments for 2024, Albania is among the most advanced administrations in the region in public finance management, with significant improvements in the structure and functioning of control and audit systems.
Minister Malaj underlined the importance of transparency and integrity in the use of European Union funds, emphasizing that strong internal control and audit mechanisms guarantee the prevention, detection and correction of any irregularities or fraud.
He also confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Finance to advance reforms, ensure the efficient use of funds and meet EU standards, as part of Albania's European integration process, assuring citizens that public funds will be managed in a transparent and accountable manner.
