Inflation in Kosovo, 7.3% - Transport and energy lead price increases in August

Consumer prices in Kosovo increased significantly during August, marking an annual increase of 7.3%, compared to the same month last year. According to data published by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), during August alone prices increased by 1.3% compared to July.

The annual increase was particularly driven by transport, where prices increased by 21.1%. It was followed by the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group, with an increase of 11.8%.

Increases were also recorded in restaurants and accommodation services, by 5.4%, while prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 5.1%. Healthcare increased by 4.2%, while personal care and other services became more expensive by 3.8%.

Prices of furniture and household appliances also increased, by 3.4%, entertainment, sports and culture by 3.4%, clothing and footwear by 3%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages by 2.6%.

Meanwhile, a slight decrease of 0.5% was recorded only in the educational services group.

Compared to July, monthly inflation in August was 1.3%. Again, transportation had the biggest impact, with an increase of 4.6%.

Prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and fuels increased by 0.8%, while furniture and household appliances by 0.5%.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages became more expensive by 0.4%, as did health, information and communication, and entertainment, sports and culture.

More moderate increases were recorded in restaurants and accommodation, by 0.3%, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco, clothing and footwear, and personal care services all recorded increases of 0.1%.
