Security and management, American experience for activity in the Port of Durres
American experience in managing the port of Durres. In a statement distributed by the American embassy in Tirana, it is known that the external advisor of the Durres Port Authority, Alfred Velaj, participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program of the US Department of State, with the support and coordination of the Embassy of the United States of America in Tirana.
According to the announcement, the "Smart Ports" program took place in the US during the period August 3–14, 2026 and focused on:
port and maritime security
management of small ports
port infrastructure management
inter-institutional cooperation
development of professional capacities
exchange of international best practices
Participation was made possible with the support of the Durrës Port Authority, as part of its commitment to strengthening professional capacities and familiarizing itself with best practices in port administration, management and security.
The experience and knowledge gained during the program will serve as a further contribution to the process of modernization, increased safety, and strengthening professional standards in the Albanian port sector, the US embassy said in a statement.
