Wealth Distribution in Europe - Which Countries Have the Most Billionaires?

Economic inequality continues to be one of the biggest challenges around the world, including on the European continent. According to data from “Our World in Data”, in almost all European countries, the richest 1% of the population owns at least 20% of the national wealth.

According to the prestigious Forbes magazine, by 2025 the number of billionaires in the world will have reached over 3,000, with a combined total wealth of $16.1 trillion. However, it is largely concentrated in just three countries. The United States, China and India own more than half of the world's billionaires.

While the global dominance is outside of Europe, the old continent also has a significant number of wealthy people. According to Forbes, the European country with the most billionaires is Germany, with a total of 171 individuals with a fortune of over a billion dollars. Their combined wealth amounts to 676.4 billion euros.

In second place is Italy, with 74 billionaires who together own €289 billion. The United Kingdom ranks third, with 55 billionaires who have a combined wealth of €203 billion.

France has 52 billionaires, followed closely by Sweden with 45 and Switzerland with 42 billionaires, reflecting the high level of wealth concentrated in these relatively small countries.

Among Europe's five largest economies, Spain has the lowest number of super-rich, with 34 in total.
