Greek pensions, on the decline - The average figure dropped to 783 euros gross in July 2025

Average main pensions in Greece in July were below 800 euros gross, while supplementary pensions also marked a significant decline, according to data from the Helios system.
This fact not only emphasizes the need for the removal of the so-called "personal difference" that has already been warned about, but also underlines the necessity of continuous monitoring of the social security system.
This also explains why the percentage of pensioners at risk of poverty after receiving benefits and pensions, according to the latest data from ELSTAT for 2024, reaches 13.6% of the total population.
In fact, the situation seems to be getting worse every year, as data from both the Ministry of Labor's Helios system and ELSTAT show that the income situation of pensioners is deteriorating dramatically.
The aging population, the consequences of the decade-long financial crisis, along with high unemployment and low wages, have pushed pensions in Greece to particularly low levels.
Data from the Helios system shows that in July 2025, the average main pension was 783 euros gross, compared to 821.99 euros a year earlier. In June 2025, it was 843.63 euros, while in July 2023 it was 790.57 euros). Since the beginning of 2023, pensions have increased in total by 13.25%, but this increase has only applied to those who do not have a "personal difference".
A similar downward trend is observed in supplementary pensions, which do not increase in parallel with the main pensions. This year, in July, they fell to 178.51 euros, from 196.89 euros in the same month in 2024.
