The Albanian Road Authority has signed the contract for Lot II of the Tirana bypass, paving the way for the start of works. The agreement was signed with the joint venture of operators “Elmazaj Konstruksion” & “INC SpA”, with a value of 2.73 billion lek, including VAT, and foresees the construction of a segment of about 4 km.

For Lot I of this project, ARRSH signed a contract a few days ago with the company "4 AM", worth 3.15 billion lek, including VAT. The two lots together have a length of 8.5 km covering the Kashar–Vaqarr segment, a key part of the bypass, while the cost of their construction is around 5.9 billion lek.

The Tirana Bypass has a total length of 21.6 km and is considered one of the most important road infrastructure projects, as it will directly connect the Durrës-Tirana highway with Tirana-Elbasan, avoiding the entry of transit traffic into the capital.

Although full completion requires the tendering of the remaining sections, the construction of Kashar–Vaqarr (lots I and II), together with the Kashar–Lekaj lot of the Milot - Fier Motorway, which includes 7 of the 8.5 km tendered bypass, is expected to close all links of the Adriatic-Ionian corridor.

In addition to easing traffic, the project is expected to bring environmental and urban benefits: diverting heavy traffic outside Tirana will reduce air pollution, congestion on inner-city roads, and the risk of accidents.
