"Eastern Guard", NATO's new initiative - Rutte stresses the

Following the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones, NATO has launched the "Eastern Guard" initiative to strengthen the defense of its eastern flank. Key allies have committed to the mission, while Poland has described the incident as a deliberate provocation by the Kremlin.

Following the violation of Polish airspace by at least 19 Russian drones earlier this week, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has announced the launch of the "Eastern Guard" program, aimed at deterring further Russian interference and showing solidarity with Poland.

"We have seen drones violating our airspace. Intentional or not, this is unacceptable. Allies have expressed full solidarity with Poland. It is essential to oppose aggression and defend every member of the Alliance," the NATO chief said. "Protecting the eastern flank is our primary task. That is why we are launching the 'Eastern Guard' initiative to further strengthen this sensitive area," he added.

Polish officials have said the drone violation was an attempt by Russia to test Poland's and NATO's ability to respond. Earlier, Poland rejected US President Donald Trump's suggestion that the violations may have been a mistake.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin stated that Russian forces were carrying out attacks on Ukraine at the time of the drone violations and did not intend to strike any targets in Poland.

The "Eastern Guard" mission will include a wide range of assets and capabilities, integrating air and ground bases. Several allies, such as Denmark, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, have committed to the program, while others are expected to join, Rutte added.

This development reinforces Poland's role as a key point in the defense of the Alliance's eastern flank. NATO aims not only to increase its military presence, but also to send a strong deterrent signal to any further provocative actions by Russia.
