How much do insurance companies pay out? - AMF: 2,200 more claims paid in

Insurance companies have paid a total of 4.8 billion lek in claims in the period January-July 2025, with the majority of gross claims paid relating to motor insurance. According to the latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority, insurance companies have paid around 3.1 billion lek for vehicle accident cases that had third-party motor liability insurance, i.e. domestic MTPL, border insurance or Green Card.

Claims payments have increased by only 1% compared to the period January - July 2024. The number of claims paid has increased by 2,200, reaching 44,504, of which 95% of claims were paid by non-Life insurance companies and 5% by life insurance companies.

Given that the largest number of contracts and gross written premiums is recorded for insurance in the non-life category, the value of claims paid is also higher in the non-life activity. Thus, about 4.3 billion lek claims were paid for motor insurance, property insurance and other activities not related to the life of the individual, while only 209 million lek claims were paid from life insurance.

On the other hand, pending claims as a direct insurer, i.e. those that are still unpaid, that are in the evaluation process or that are the subject of legal cases, have increased.

According to the Institute of Statistics, in the first seven months of the year, 16% fewer road accidents were recorded than in the same period in 2024. As a result of the lower number of accidents caused, damage payments were also lower.
