Microsoft, 400 million USD in Switzerland - Investments will go to expand "AI", cloud infrastructure
Microsoft will invest $400 million in Switzerland, with the money going towards developing its cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
The American technology company announced the investment after a meeting between representatives of the Swiss Ministry of Economy and company officials in Bern. Microsoft, which employs about 1,000 people in Switzerland, did not provide details on how many jobs the latest investment would create.
The money will be used to expand and upgrade four data centers near Geneva and Zurich, responding to growing demand for artificial intelligence services and cloud infrastructure in Switzerland, official sources said.
The expansion will serve existing and new customers, as well as allow data to remain within Swiss borders, an important requirement for sectors such as healthcare, finance and government.
Microsoft will also expand partnerships with small and medium-sized companies and increase training efforts to help people use digital tools. The goal is to reach one million Swiss citizens by the end of 2027.
"Switzerland has created one of the world's leading innovation ecosystems, blending world-class research with real-world applications," Microsoft representatives said in a statement.
According to them, the investment aims to further boost collaborations in Switzerland, such as with the national network of innovation parks. The company also wants to expand interactions with international organizations in Geneva.
The software giant, which boasts a market capitalization of $3.42 trillion, has seen an impressive 18.50% growth over the past three months and a 9.22% expansion since the beginning of the year.
